Tonight, with all the wind and snow, is a very different night from last. But last night wasn't warm--not by a long shot.

Now that we've passed the winter solstice, I expect the days to gradually grow longer. I drove by the Viewpoint a little earlier today. I didn't have my camera with me. It was cold, and the sky was mostly gray or white, with some bands of pale blue showing through. I wasn't tempted to hurry back with my camera.

It's been a cold day, following several other cold days. The earth at the Viewpoint was frozen, and people weren't lingering long when I was there a little earlier this afternoon.

It was sort of cold and gray at the Viewpoint earlier this evening. As so often, a group of teenagers was clustered around the three-sided bench encircling the laurel tree. As I approached, they dispersed like a nervous flock of birds. One of them--a guy--commented wryly as he walked away, "Great weather for photos!" It's hard to believe it was just summer.
